Documenting and celebrating the rich Ukrainian heritage in Canada is the mission of the Ukrainian Pioneers Association of Alberta. A volunteer, non-profit association, membership is open to anyone who shares a passion for safeguarding and sharing the Ukrainian experience in Canada in its multifaceted expressions, first with fellow Albertans but also with all Canadians.

Current president of the organization is Jaroslaw (Jars) Balan of the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. Other members of the executive are: Alexander Makar – treasurer, Illya Khineyko – secretary, Peter Melnycky, Peter Opryshko, Lynnien Pawluk, Maryna Chernyavska, Elaine Kalynchuk, and Kevin Baron. The executive used to hold their regular meetings at the Kule Folklore Centre at the University of Alberta, and moved online since the spring 2020 due to the restrictions related to the pandemic.

We are currently members of the Edmonton Heritage Council and the Ukrainian-Canadian Congress – Alberta Provincial Council.
